Under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Gifted and Advanced Programs K-12 School Support Specialist is responsible for the compliance, strategic planning, and overall program offerings of K-12 Gifted and Advanced programs. Providing leadership and oversight of the Gifted and Advanced Program Department, the Specialist will provide leadership, support, and direction in the areas of gifted education and advanced program options to ensure that students throughout the district are receiving equitable access to gifted services and advanced learning opportunities. Additionally, this position will coordinate the application process for Advanced High School Programs, including the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Commonwealth’s Governor's School (CGS).
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides leadership, support, and direction in the areas of gifted and talented education, ensuring that students are receiving equitable options and access to gifted programs while monitoring programs for compliance to District and State guidance
- Oversees the implementation, enrollment, and curriculum development of all gifted programing to include but not limited to: Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Board Exams, K-8 Gifted School Cluster Grouping, K-8 Gifted Model
- Develops and implements strategic plans to increase awareness, enrollment, and support of Gifted and Advanced Programs
- Develops and documents guidelines and procedures for the delivery of gifted services across the district
- Develops systems and processes for monitoring compliance of Gifted programs; monitors effectiveness of established processes and recommends improvements as necessary
- Ensures compliance to all regulations, timelines, and guidelines in alignment with the Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted
- Utilizes data to develop, implement, and monitor action plans to improve student outcomes and teacher practices related to K-12 gifted programs
- Designs and executes research-based Gifted professional development in collaboration with other Curriculum & Instruction teams and Professional Development team for teachers, school leaders, and curriculum staff
- Provides guidance and direction to the K-12 Gifted Liaison and Gifted Resource Teachers

Education and Experience:
Required
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Gifted Education
- Ability to obtain additional appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- Five (5) years of recent and successful teaching experience

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 11-Month (220 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
