Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a student-focused and dedicated Paraeducator to assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Support and Behavior Support) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment. This role will be based at the JJW Educational and Cultural Center supporting teachers as they instruct students in public programs such as Alternative Education Courthouse Academy, ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education), Gateway Academy, and Q.U.E.S.T.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
- Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs/toilet training
- Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
- Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
- Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
- Uses special skills (i.e. sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
- Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting
Special Requirements:
- Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (185 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
