Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to public schools and school divisions with high percentages of children from low-income families. The program's goal is to ensure that all children receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps. 

 

Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a Title I funded Elementary School Behavior Interventionist to work collaboratively with a student's educational team and parents to develop and implement behavior intervention strategies for the classroom, school environment and home setting to overcome behavior related limitations and support the student’s ability to achieve academic success. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Actively engages with students whose behavior disrupts or limits their ability to participate in the educational environment.
  • Tailors behavior intervention strategies to meet the needs of individual students; monitors student’s progress and adapts strategies as needed. 
  • Reacts appropriately to escalated behavior and quickly identifies and administers required intervention(s). 
  • Supports behavior intervention through data driven intervention methods including Check In/Check Out (CICO), small group and 1v1 support. 
  • Collaborates with teachers and parents to develop behavior intervention strategies unique to the student; engages parents to become active participants in behavior intervention strategies and encourages their use within the home. 
  • Models appropriate behavior to the student population; serves as a role model and resource to students. 
  • Establishes and maintains standards of responsibility and cooperative student behaviors; monitors student behavioral progress in all educational settings.
  • Stays abreast on new and emerging behavior intervention methodologies and best practices. 
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district.

Education and Experience:

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of experience working with “at risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” children in a role that required behavior intervention and/or behavior coaching
  • Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board

Preferred

  • Registered as a Qualified Mental Health Professional or Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)
  • Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
  • Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Special Requirements:

  • If assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities, professional staff should be/have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.
  • If assigned to work with students on the Autism Spectrum, professional staff should have knowledge in evidence-based practices for instructing students with autism, including, but not limited to, Applied Behavior Analysis, alternative communication methods, modeling and structured teacher (visual scheduling/supports, physical structure and teaching components.)

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.  New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
