Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a Foreign Language Interpreter to support our schools communication with students, parents and other community members whose primary languages are not English. Essential Job Functions:
- Interprets and conveys responses from second language to first and vice versa.
- Receives information on subjects (e.g. SPED conferences) to be discussed and studied prior to the interpreting session; interprets accurately and proficiently; maintains confidentiality when interpreting sensitive information.
- Helps non-English speaking parents to register students for school at an English as a Second Language (ESOL) Intake Center.
- Supports non-English speaking parents during parent conferences, grade reports, and school meetings/functions; collaborates with ESOL teachers to assure non-English speaking parents have a qualified interpreter in all meetings as needed.
- Serves as a liaison between and among teachers, building administrators and central office personnel regarding the instructional program.

Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Thorough knowledge and fluent speech in at least one (1) foreign language
- Ability to aquire any certifications or licensure required by the VDOE
- Three (3) years of experience in an interpreter role, ideally within education
Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Thorough knowledge and fluent speech in mulitple foreign languages

Employment Terms: The schedule for this support position is part-time and structured on an hourly, as needed basis. This position may be grant funded and evaluated annually.
